Nicola and Mark were looking for something to complete the pool area in their garden. They got in contact with us and the first step was to arrange a visit to the workshop to get a little more inspiration. On that first visit, they were able to see a hut under construction in its skeleton stage, which gave them a really good idea of how we build them. As well as that, they also got to see a finished hut on site, this really gave us the opportunity to discuss how they might use their shepherds hut.
The hut they imagined would need to be multi-purpose. Firstly, they wanted it to serve as a pool house for friends and family using the pool. A space to change, hang out during the summer months and enjoy the outside space.
Secondly, it needed to double up as a guest room, so it had to have a practical element as well as being comfortable. A double bed, lighting, electrical sockets and a wood burning stove were included to maximise its potential.
Taking inspiration from some of our other projects, we recreated a raised double bed, using rough sawn oak boards, (gently sanded to create a rustic feel within the hut). Nicola chose a very subtle shade of pink for the interior colour which married perfectly with the oak windows, flooring and the bed, giving the interior a beautiful period feel.
Nicola and Mark positioned the hut so their guests could have views over their lake when they lie in bed, and from the adjacent window, a view of the rest of the garden and pool.
